Comedy Night Tickles Welford’s Funny Bones

The Welford and Weston Memorial Hall packed out last Friday night to witness Pete Teckman compère a lineup that began with Jules O’Brian’s take on life, love and family. Followed by Ashley Frieze with a set of musical covers to alternative lyrics and culminating with headliner Josh Pugh’s laid-back insight.

Run by a small and enthusiastic volunteer group, the evening was well-oiled by a slick bar service offering a well-chosen selection of drinks and snacks. Cheese boards were a highlight and went down a treat.

The acts were embraced by the audience and the atmosphere fizzed for the whole evening; a great time had by all.

Apart from bringing the village together, the purpose of the event was to raise funds for the fit-out of the new pavilion at Synder Meadow. The raffle made £360. First prize, kindly donated by the Bridge House Theatre, was two tickets to the Warwick Comedy Club on June 6th featuring Shaparak Khorsandi and Josh Pugh. Other prizes were a roast dinner for two at the One Elm and a £30 Warwick Sports voucher. A bonus prize was a selection gift box from Hogan’s cider.

In all, takings were nearly £2500. After costs, to be finalised, funds raised are expected to be around £1000.

A warm and heartfelt thanks to all those involved, from the comedians to the audience, the serving staff, the donors and the volunteers who made it all possible.
